Dr. Anat Koplowitz-Breier
Once a friend of mine told me, I am lucky my hobby and my professional occupation overlap. I must admit it is true. Since my whole academic training was in the Comparative Literature Dept. at Bar-Ilan, it is not surprising that I feel at home here. That is why I am trying to make it a home for my students too. I wrote my M.A. thesis under the supervision of Prof. Yehudah Friedlander on the Nibelungenlied, a German epic from the thirteenth century. My Ph.D. dissertation was written under the supervision of Prof. Ruth Reichelberg z"l on the fifteenth-century English poet Sir Thomas Malory. Prof. Reichelberg was not only my teacher and supervisor; I feel she was my mentor in my professional and my private life. In recent years, I have decided to return to my true love: poetry. Percy Bysshe Shelly wrote: "Poetry is a mirror which makes beautiful that which is distorted." I think that in a world as ours, nothing is more important than that. Lately I am working on modern and contemporary poetry on biblical themes. I found the combination of old and new, traditional and modern, sometimes even avant-garde, fascinating and exciting.
