Literature and Gender

Our department’s objective is to explore how literary texts (prose and poetry) became a tool for gender awareness designing in the West from New Age to the present day. We provide our students with honed theoretical tools to enable them to read canonical literature from the gender prism—i.e., oppositional or informed reading—and unveil the mechanisms through which the patriarchy bolsters and perpetuates gender perceptions and women's discrimination or exclusion.
